This work reflects my impressions from Lewis Carroll’s classic tales «Alice in Wonderland» and «Through the Looking Glass And What Alice Found There».
On the box’s lid I have painted the moment from the beginning of the tale. Alice is coming through the mirror to other world. The scene is painted in delicate violet and pink tones. Silver powder shines through the oils creating a sparkle of the bridge, the sea and the castle painted in the background. The depth of the sky is produced with the help of a mother-of-pearl inlay. Mother-of-pearl inlays that shine brightly with violet, green, pink, orange and blue undertones can be found in the flowers, in some grass, in the leaves of roses and in the area around the ship painted in the foreground. Some areas of the composition are crafted three-dimensionally.
The box’s exterior is covered with silver powder, and this silver area is additionally covered with light pink/violet oils. On this silver-violet background I have painted beautiful flowers using oil paints.
The box’s interior is covered with red lacquer. On the lid’s interior I have written in gold my name Knyazev Sergey, the title, Fedoskino and the year of 2010. This box is made of papier-mache. The lid is hinged from the top of the scene, and the box rests on four legs.
